It's been so great having this goal of 12 quilts this year. Even if I don't make that number, I have thoroughly enjoyed getting back to doing something I love. It gives me a little oasis of calm in my otherwise chaotic life. I have some pictures to add of some recent work I've done but won't get to it today. I got a Kings Cross quilt quilted at the beginning of this month but my phone died so I didn't get a picture of it on the machine. Earlier in August, I also quilted up the brown and blue nine-patch pictured in the previous post. Both of those quilts, along with the Pioneer Braid, now reside on my stair railing awaiting binding and labels.
But I will share a couple of (dark) pictures of what I'm working up currently. Sorry about the lighting, I sew at night and take pictures at night, and my room is sort of cave-like which is terrible for doing things like deciding on colors, taking pictures, reading. You know. I'll be taking one of these two in to quilt on Friday and I'm so pleased in particular about using up the last of some swap blocks on the Sawtooth Stars/Delectable Mountains quilt. Those have been aging for a whopping 11 years - it was time.
This is a mystery quilt I started about 8 years ago. More after the jump!
I got the top completely done and as I read the last step, I stopped dead in my tracks. The border needs to have the last triangles APPLIQUED! What the what??? I admire applique. I drool over applique. I covet applique. I bought an applique quilt for my bed because I knew deep in my heart that I'd never make an applique quilt. So to say that I freaked out is putting it mildly. Fast forward to the 12 Quilts Project...if there's ever a chance for this quilt to get finished, now is the time. I cut and pressed all my triangles. I've got my white border fabric. I'm working on my attitude. There is no try, only do - or something like that. Thanks a bunch, Yoda.
Here's the Sawtooth Star/Delectable Mountains blocks I'm talking about. I've had to make a few blocks to fill in but I think I'm pretty well ready to start putting the blocks together into rows. I've got a flying geese border already laid out and have been stitching away on it. This quilt is scrappy heaven, I'll just tell ya. It's been completely fun playing the the blocks and rearranging them. I think this is the one going on the machine Friday.
Catch up with you soon, I'm busy working toward my goal of 12 quilts in 2012!
